"I've seen many lives transformed by God through DNA. Our church community has benefited hugely from the development of individual characters and a quality model of discipleship."

City Church, Aberdeen
I am now one month into DNA, and so far I can honestly say there is nothing I'd rather be doing with my life right now than this. I was placed at my home church, City Church in Aberdeen, where I have been going all my life. I am incredibly thankful to be placed at this church because there is so much growth and life right now at City, in just one month I've been able to be involved in heaps of exciting things, including;
- A children's holiday club that saw over 50 children accept God into their lives. We had nearly 100 kids each day and were even busing kids in from several of the rougher areas of Aberdeen, many of whom had never had anything to do with church, and many of whom decided to become Christians during the week.
- The set-up of a street youth evangelism project across the city of Aberdeen where several of us go out every Friday night and serve hot chocolate to teens who are hanging around the city. Though it is only in it's third or fourth week we have already seen one guy come along to church just days after speaking to him for the very first time.
I have even gotten to be involved in an incredibly exciting development in the church where we have expanded from being a single-site church of about 450 people to a multi-site church, and although this has brought it's challenges it is thrilling to see that we are experiencing so much growth that we can no longer even contain the whole church in one building.
I am thoroughly enjoying this year so far and in one month I've had the honour of experiencing things that some people would only see in the space of a few years. I cannot wait to see what the rest of this year holds.

First month gone already, how time flies when you’re having fun and serving in God’s name!! Though I missed the first two residentials in London I have been involved within City Church, Aberdeen and have loved every minute.
My first week involved the kid’s holiday club and although my movement was restricted so soon after my operation, just being involved and seeing the kids have so much fun and learn about God at the same time was an absolute delight. I was on the bus run, picking up kids from areas of the city that would probably not have had the opportunity to get involved with a club like this. On the Monday the kids were quiet and not really sure what they were in for but thereafter they couldn’t wait to get on the bus and get to church. The team at City Church who lead the kids work are not only dedicated but also wonderfully talented and made learning about God so entertaining for the kids.
Setting up the 24 hour prayer room with Jonny was another highlight of the first month. Being creative in that way was something that I had never really done before; the only shame was having to put the room back to normal afterwards!!
I have also been getting stuck into my role as administrator for the Alpha course being run at City Church. This has meant learning skills, not only that I didn’t have but didn’t know were possible. These include sending group text messages via the internet, I really need to get into the 21st century.
Other things I’ve been involved in include the Lifestyle group on Monday nights, for people going through difficulties in life. It was through this group that I became a Christian, two and a half years ago, it’s been good to go and put something back into it. On a similar vein is the Thursday morning drop in
My highlights so far are that the church I'm a part of, City Church now has 3 services on a Sunday in 2 locations. The reason for that being the highlight is because when it was first mentioned I was not instantly a fan, but I prayed about it and God put my mind to rest by showing me that this was going to benefit the city of Aberdeen, He did that through the song “God of this City”. I suddenly saw that this was part of His plan for the city, and everything I have been involved with in relation to this second site has been the most purposeful work I may ever have done.
Well that’s just the first month so looking forward to the rest of the year.......
Kenny
