Oldmachar Church, Aberdeen
Our placement is with Oldmachar Church in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen. It is my second year working for this church, and Hannah and Chris though they have been members for the past few years are just starting their first year as full-time volunteers.
The three of us are mainly focused on working in the local schools. We are regularly involved in the four main primary schools around bridge of don and Oldmachar academy. Our main objective is to build relationships with the staff and pupils in the schools by serving the schools in any way they require. We regularly take assemblies where we play some music and teach simple bible messages. We also help out with any classes that teachers require extra help with. In the academy all three of us help out with classes on a weekly basis. I help out in a S4 science class and a few music classes, Chris helps out in French and Maths, and Hannah helps out in SE and ACE classes.
We also help in other ministries throughout Aberdeen, such as prison fellowship and the Aberdeen city missions team, which is great to be a part of.
On top of the work in schools, we are involved in the running of regular church activities. On a weekly basis we help in the running five youth groups. On a Tuesday evening we hold a group for primary six and seven, on a Wednesday, Sunday morning and evening we run groups for the youth in the church congregation, and on a Friday evening we run a youth club for all secondary aged youth in the area. This keeps us very busy as between the three of us we each lead at least one of these groups.
Although this is a lot of work we love what we are doing and thoroughly enjoy it!
Zak, Hannah and Chris
