DNAers on international trip to Herrnhut, Germany

Our team spent two weeks during late May based in and around Herrnhut’s ‘Jesus House’ working closely with the church there, but also venturing into Poland and the Czech Republic.  Condensing a fortnight of challenges, inspiration and fun into this short article is near enough impossible, but I’ll try...

We could tell you about luge crashes, violent games of cards, accidental tadpole eating or semi-raw Polish sausages, but on reflection the main headlines from the trip are all based around much of what God had to say and do with us.  The whole team encountered and heard from God in new and fresh ways and everyone came away with their own unique challenges and encouragements for the future.

Nestled deep in the East German countryside not far from the Polish and Czech borders, Herrnhut has a rich spiritual history – the Moravian church having its roots there has given rise to countless stories of missionaries being sent out into the nations.  For us, this spiritual depth and richness was tangible as we walked around the town – a calm, relaxed atmosphere coupled with an undeniable presence of the Holy Spirit.

Given this fantastic context it’s unsurprising that from the outset God was speaking to and through us.  All of the team were stepping out in prophecy and it was a privilege to both bless the local church and have people speak into our lives.  Personally things were said over me about speaking and leading which confirmed what I’d heard before but also left me with plenty to think about in terms of the future.

The team had all set ‘faith targets’ before we went (or at least by the time we arrived!) and unsurprisingly God came through and delivered.  My highlights included the opportunity to pray for healing in people which was especially poignant and powerful given the current outpouring and move of God in Florida and seemingly around the world – an exciting talking point in all three countries we visited.

The ‘Jesus House’ staff had prepared a diverse and varied programme for us, with some of the activities including working at an outreach cafe in Zittau, street work in the Czech Republic, a Friday night of street evangelism in Dresden, practical tasks around the site, leading daily worship meetings, a couple of trips to work with teams in Poland and speaking at various events.

However I think I speak for the team in saying beyond all of that the best thing was just getting to know one another and our new German friends.  The group got on brilliantly, we were made to feel so welcome and God did so much.  We may have just been away for two weeks, but it was a time that’s had the potential to help shape and impact some of our futures and rekindled old visions and dreams.
