DNA Trip - Berlin report

In May this year a small group of us from DNA went out to Berlin for our two week mission trip. Many of us were nervous about the language barrier and wondered how God was going to use us?!

In Berlin we worked with two churches. One in a place called Spandau which was on the outskirts of Berlin and the second was in a place called Wedding which was much closer to the centre of the city. The striking thing about both of these churches was their passion and hunger for God and to see revival in their city.

In the church in Spandau we mostly worked with young people. We quickly realized that the language barrier was not a problem as we played with the children. We had some translators when working with the older youth and had the opportunity to share a talk and pray for these godly young men and woman which was a real privilege.

We were also involved in street work which in Spandau involved performing a drama in the town centre as well as sharing our testimonies with passers by.

In Wedding we went and sang in front of a group of alcoholics and it wasn’t until afterwards that we discovered we were the first group that they hadn’t tried to throw things at or spit at! One man even asked the group if we could pray for him.

We also got an opportunity to help out at the church’s city centre outreach to drug addicts, where we saw a man give his life to Christ.

Through working with both churches we had an opportunity to get alongside people from many different walks of life but the key things in all these situations was to show these people that they were worth spending time with and that God loved them, which we tried to demonstrate through our actions and words.

An important part of us being there was to pray and support the German Christians in the work they were doing in the city. Many of them commented on how encouraged they were that a team from England had come to work with them.

I think the main things we learned was the importance and effectiveness of prayer as well as how to rely on God in uncomfortable situations.

This was a great trip and also really brought the team much closer together as we supported and encouraged each other in everything we were doing.
