Re:act July/Aug 2004
Re:act 2004 has been a fantastic experience, and it will certainly be remembered by me as a significant time of seeing God at work. Throughout the two weeks, God’s blessing and faithfulness was continual, and left many of us with a strong feeling of thankfulness to him.
Our first week on the Isle of Wight was an exciting time where we received some quality teaching sessions and where the DNA trainees had the opportunity to lead small groups of the Re:Act trainees. It was a privilege to be able to serve and pray for individuals, and to be given the opportunity to see God on the move. It was great fun to get to know new people and to work as part of a team in preparation for the following Action Week.
We had good times of worshipping God and hearing many encouraging personal testimonies from different members of the DNA and Re:Act team. God’s presence was with us in changing people’s hearts and lives, and in revealing more of his character and love. It was great to see one member of the team become a Christian on the second day of the residential, and many take hold of the opportunity to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
It was certainly a powerful time of God equipping us and giving us confidence in him for the evangelism which lay ahead. We attended workshops, which were run by the Radish team, helping us to develop skills in face-painting, hair-braiding, and balloon modelling, which were later put to good use on the family fun days. We also spent time practising and discussing outreach questionnaires on each other. We found these to be a valuable means of sharing the gospel with the local people of the town.
Each of the Family Fun Days was different, but each equally action-packed and exciting. We worked effectively as a team on a rotation basis of different activities, serving the local community and seeing the children really enjoy themselves! As we switched from the art of face painting to stewarding the bouncy castle, we were given many opportunities to chat to people and share the love of Jesus. As a team we also supported the Roadshow activities and all the games which were stage-led. The live band was quality, the free BBQ was appreciated and thankfully the sun kept shining! This all contributed to the success of each day, and the relaxed atmosphere.
It was so exciting to worship God in the open air in the evangelistic event each evening, and to hear the gospel preached in those six different towns. As we travelled from place to place overall we saw 32 people commit their lives to Jesus, 10 people re-commit their lives to him, and 80 people sign up for Alpha. God was amazingly faithful to us! And we arrived home tired but happy.
