Hi! My name’s
Vikki
and I’m one of the current DNA trainees. My placement is at St Barnabas Church in
North London
. It’s in a really nice area and it’s the most amazing church. Even though it’s really big, it’s still like a real family. I was made to feel welcome as soon as I arrived in October and since then I’ve made some great lifelong friends. I feel so lucky to have been placed at St B’s. Especially because my passion is for kids work, and this is the place to be! I’ve been given so many different, exciting opportunities to work with the kids here. I’ve helped in holiday clubs, toddler groups, youth groups, lunch and after school clubs and kids cell groups. The kid’s team here have been really generous and have given me lots of responsibilities – leading and talking in some of the groups, running part of the holiday clubs and I even organise craft mornings every other week.
I also feel really supported at the church, by my friends here, the staff, my cell group, my co-ordinator and discipler. At my home church I’d never had a discipler or mentor and now I’m doing DNA I really appreciate having that relationship with someone, I’ve learnt so much from my discipler.
I’ve learnt a lot of practical things that will be really useful for kid’s work, about leading teams, organising events and planning and delivering talks. From my placement and the DNA training blocks I’ve learnt new ways to pray, worship and read the bible which has been really exciting and freeing. You get to learn SO much from the DNA blocks about theology, the church, other religions, evangelism and much much more. I’ve learnt a lot about myself as well, things I struggle with and need to work through, but also gifts God has given me. God has been so good to me these last few months, it’s not been easy but I know he’s been taking care of me.
DNA is giving me a really firm foundation for the rest of my walk with God, these last few months have already been life changing – roll on the rest of the year!
