Residential 3 - Inverness

Wow what a year, and what an ending to the year! Blurry eyed having weaved our way, by various means, to the wilds of Inverness, we were met with welcoming smiles from Scottish DNA friends and the Team. It was hard to put into words the significance of us all being together in Scotland to finish the year and joining the Scottish trainees on their turf.
I was aware that it was the last time we would all be together in one place and so I tried to appreciate every moment of being there with people. There were definitely some highlights for me in the week. One of which was a surprise creative challenge thrown into the programme. It was a chance for the budding theatricals (of which we have many), to show their talents. Brandishing eight essential items and a film title per small group we ventured into the surrounding countryside, which was the backdrop for each masterpiece. Considering the resources, Stephen Spielberg would have been proud! The best films were rewarded with precious shining Oscars, made from the highest quality plastic!! :-)
Another of my highlights was our final meal together. Compared to our usual ramshackle training block attire, we barely recognised each other in evening dresses and suits. Once we got over the shock, we were summoned into the hall to the sound of bagpipes. After dinner the music continued in the form of a ceilidh, and a chance to learn some Scottish moves… I still have the bruises to prove it! (I think we English need some practice before the end of next year!). It was the perfect end to the most challenging, rewarding and nurturing year of my life. Well worth the distance!!
