What sort of church do you go to?
I am part of a lively and friendly church in the South-East of
London, which is called
New
Generation
Church. The church has 3 congregations, one for children, one for youth and students, and one for adults. And is part of the Pioneer network of churches, and Churches Together in
Sidcup.
What do you do for a living?
I work primarily for
New
Generation
Church as team leader, which means I basically oversee the operations of
New
Generation
Church and all that entails. Also I am part of the Pioneer Leadership team, and 24-7 Prayer.com leadership team, and also travel to various places as an advisor and speaker.
How have you come to do what you do now?
I became a Christian about 15 years ago, and just knew at the point I gave my life to Jesus that I wanted to serve his church and make my life count for him. So through offering myself as a volunteer and serving the church, stacking chairs, cleaning and other ways of serving, it slowly just evolved and people started to give me opportunities to do other things and to serve in other ways. I was invited in to part of the leadership team of the church and then when our church leader was relocating, I was asked to pick up the leadership of the church, which is nearly 5 years ago now.
What ambitions do you have for your life?
I have lots of ambitions for my life, I feel very passionate about seeing young people become who they are supposed to be, particularly across Europe and the
UK. I have an ambition to own a ski restaurant/lodge in
the
Alps, I have an ambition to make Jesus famous where ever I go. I also have an ambition to see the church I am part of really make a difference in the local community.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
I have too many to be able to mention them here, and some of them would be vetted by the webmaster. But recently a very embarrassing moment for me was while leading the youth programme at Spring Harvest, I was invited up to dance with The Tribe, an experience both I and the Spring Harvest guests will never forget.
Apart from the Bible, which book has most affected your life?
There are a few books which have really affected my life. The first was an atlas of the world my Grandad gave me when I was a small boy, and as I opened the pages I found it hard to imagine how big the world was, and that there were other people who existed in remote and wild places. Also 'Only Love can make a Miracle' by Mahesh Chavda, 'Courageous Leadership' by Bill Hybels, Billy Graham's autobiography, and finally a book called 'Fish!'.
What piece of music means the most to you?
I think I like most music and depending on what mood you are in and what you are doing, music has different influences on me I guess. But thinking back to a time when I was in the slums in India, I remember hearing a song by a group called Tears for Fears, and the song was called 'Chains' and it was just such a powerful song about the injustice of women. And it just happened I was seeing it through for eyes, so it was quite powerful.
Apart from Jesus, which person in history you'd most like to meet?
Over my life I have met some amazing people who have become real heroes to me, many of them consider themselves just ordinary people going about their business. As so many people have influenced me it is hard to pick one person.
