What sort of church do you go to?
Good question! If someone could describe ours I would love to see it. Check out www.the-eccles.com .Some would say a “new church” but we have been going nine years this month so its definitely not new! Some would say a “Christian Fellowship”, which I don't like and I would want say “a group of people trying to follow Jesus faithfully in today's society in a non religious way full of reality”. Our desire is to keep releasing people into whatever they are called to do rather than gather them into church activities.
What do you do for a living?
I try to help lead the church with my wife Linda and friend Jono. (Not saying Linda is not a friend!!) I also do various things in the City of
Sheffield
like schools work, prayer initiatives and whatever else I should be involved with for the sake of this great city of
Sheffield
.
Occasionally get asked to speak at places outside the city.
How have you come to do what you do now?
God began the process once Linda and I went to
Toronto
. He certainly messed our lives up for the good but it meant a lot of changes for us. This eventually meant we started the church in our lounge in 1996.
What ambitions do you have for your life?
Too many to mention but here is some:
-
I want to keep following the finger of God
-
Never get comfortable
-
Never want to lose my passion for sharing Jesus and taking risks for Him
-
I want to have a go at stand up comedy
-
I would love to run a marathon
-
I would love to do a parachute jump even though I am scared of heights
-
To be true to my promises I made to my wife Linda and God on our wedding day for the whole of my life.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
Wetting my pants at a church meeting!!
Apart from the Bible, which book has most affected your life?
“Divine Appointments” by Larry Tomzcak usually read at least twice a year. But I have just got a book entitled “The Barbarian Way” by Erwin McManus which I think could become a close second
What piece of music means the most to you?
Any Mozart as this reminds me of my wedding and one of my first dates with Linda. Also the Hymn "O Jesus I have promised" as I used to jump up and down to I when we sang it at my junior school before I became a Christian but now as it is what I have promised to do.
Apart from Jesus, which person in history you'd most like to meet?
Horst Ortman from
Germany
who holds the world record for spitting a cherry stone the furthest. 88 ft 5 1/2 inches. I would love to ask him "WHY?"
Billy Graham, Paul Gascoigne, Billy Connolly, Robin Williams, Steve Martin, Bono, Arthur Blessitt, Ross Noble. To have a meal together and few drinks and laugh, cry and discuss what really matters in life.
